Forum: software Subject: how to verify or repair downloads

I've noticed that checksums are not posted with large files, so there is no way to verify the download. Also, I see no way to repair broken downloads (unless there is a corresponding torrent). There IS an rsync server running on some of the servers, for example I can get a module list with the command "rsync ia801001.us.archive.org::".

base root directory ("/")
tmp scratch transfer space
tv TV archive staging area
wayback /var/tmp/wayback
petabox petabox system images export area
incoming_0 item dropper path
incoming_1 item dropper path
incoming_2 item dropper path
incoming_3 item dropper path
s30 S3 staging area
s31 S3 staging area
s32 S3 staging area
s33 S3 staging area
items_0 items collections
items_1 items collections
items_2 items collections
items_3 items collections
items_4 items collections
items_5 items collections
items_6 items collections
items_7 items collections
items_8 items collections
items_9 items collections
items_10 items collections
items_11 items collections
items_12 items collections
items_13 items collections
items_14 items collections
items_15 items collections
items_16 items collections
items_17 items collections
items_18 items collections
items_19 items collections
items_20 items collections
items_21 items collections
items_22 items collections
items_23 items collections
items_24 items collections
items_25 items collections
items_26 items collections
items_27 items collections
items_28 items collections
items_29 items collections
items_30 items collections
items_31 items collections
items_32 items collections
items_33 items collections

items_35 items collections

But if I try to actually view the contents of these, I get an "access denied" error, so it seems that rsync is not available to end users. Some of the direct downloads are VERY large, for example the .zip file in https://ia801001.us.archive.org/26/items/MAME_0.151_ROMs/ , and it would be nice to be able to repair a broken download, or at least check it without having to download again.

are you being consistent with the number of digits?

for instance if there are ten or more tracks you would need to number them 01, 02, 03, ... 10, 11, etc.

Jeff..
Thanks for the information. I did not realize that, but that does make sense. I will take that into consideration from now on.

MUCH APPRECIATED!

Checksums are provided for all files, look in the _files.xml file for the item
